NARCISSUS
This is a world class performance. Narciso Yepes is a god. Pud didn’t really know about the 10-string guitar. “If it takes ten strings to play Tarrega, then forget Tarrega,” he says.
Truth: Pud’s still working on the chords for Michael Row the Boat Ashore.

I’m wondering about the name, “Narciso.”

Narcissus (wikilink) was not a happy character. Beautiful, but not happy.

He wound up as a flower (not a boulder, Pud points out) and that must be what his mother was thinking.

Narciso Yepes: a good and bad performer, depending on the performance!
His Recuerdos de la Alhambra is wonderful. Like a singer.
His Sor is strict and restrained; like a modernist conforming to 20th century expectation: absolutely terrible for Sor.
His Bach: don't get me started.
