THE GIGUE IS UP

This piece is supposed to be in the French style. I don’t know about you, but I can still smell sauerkraut. (Easier smelled than spelled.) Still, it’s very pretty.

I love harpsichord and I love the sound of the word. “Harpsi,” is so swingy, you know, like “Pepsi.” Those powdered wig guys were cool.

Pud’s annoyed. “Why do they have to call it a “gigue”, when they could have called it a “jig.”

“For the same reason,” I said, “they call it a 'derriere' and not an 'arse'.”

I was pretty old when I realized that a “suite” in music was simply a group of dances (or later a group of any old crap). So there’s gigues, and allemandes, minuets and (wikilink).

Pud had a relative who composed music but also had a full time job as an inspector with USDA. He was always trying to bring his two interests together, resulting one time in a total mess titled, the His Wheat’s Sweet Suite.”
